Climb+Yoga Font Retreat

About

This September, Climb & Yoga is going abroad. This weekend retreat is going to be pretty special as we are going to the bouldering mecca of Fontainebleau!

Fontainebleau (or Font as it is commonly known) is the famous French forest packed with thousands of sandstone boulders just 1 hour south of Paris. The rocks of Font have been climbed on since the 1870s when they were used as a training ground for Alpinists. Since the 1930’s Font has remained at the heart of the world bouldering scene.

On this weekend retreat, you will spend 3 days in gorgeous accommodation in the pretty village of Barbizon, made famous by artists in the mid 19th century, and just a short walk to lovely shops, bars and restaurants. What’s more, it is within walking distance from the rocks!

By the end of this weekend, you will be relaxed, rejuvenated and a stronger, more flexible climber. The weekend will be packed full of yoga and climbing, whilst allowing time to enjoy the local surroundings and experience a snippet of life in France, ooo la la!

Climbing

The forest of Fontainebleau spans an unbelievable 110 sq. miles! Needless to say there is a huge amount of potential for climbing here. The rocks are grouped into different sized areas across the forest, each area is known as a crag and has a different name, e.g ‘Desert d’Apremont’ or ’95.2’ or ‘Roche aux Sabots’. Many of the larger crags have ‘circuits’  which are a series of colour coded boulders painted with a number. Led by expert guides and coaches you will develop your climbing skills and fitness by climbing circuits as well as specific problems designed to challenge you. Forget the grades you’re used to climbing, Font is famous for making even the most talented climbers eat ‘humble pie’!

Transpost

Generally speaking the best option from the UK is to drive and then take a ferry or the Eurotunnel, especially if you are sharing (if you are planning on travelling on your own, please let us know and we may be able to arrange a car share – if you’re driving and happy to car share please let us know). Alternatively, you can fly to Paris and hire a car or take the Eurostar to Paris and a connecting train to Fontainebleau or Bois-Le-Roi where we may be able to arrange for someone to pick you up, or you could take a taxi – it’s approx 15 minute drive to Barbizon from either station. We have made the journey many times and will happily share more tips with you on this after booking.

Spaces are very limited. Book yours here.

Notes

*Double beds only

** Only 3 comfy mattresses available on a mezzanine floor in one of the sharing bedrooms

***For those of you looking to come with friends, we have one room with 2 single beds and one room with 2 single beds and 3 mattresses available, ideal for 2, 3 or 5 friends to share!
